Jesmond Dene House
Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Newcastle (NE2 2EY)
This Grade II-listed Arts and Crafts building was once one of Newcastle’s most celebrated addresses. Bought in 1871 by Captain (later Sir) Andrew Noble, a partner in Lord William Armstrong’s mighty shipping and armaments company, the house was enlarged several times as Noble’s wealth and fame increased. Royalty and celebrities stayed here and were lavishly entertained. After Noble’s widow died, the house had a chequered history – including time as a WW2 Civil Defence establishment (tunnels still exist under the house) – before it was converted into Newcastle’s first, independently owned, boutique hotel in 2005.
In a quiet leafy setting yet still close to both Newcastle city centre and airport, Jesmond Dene House has a relaxed air and ample free parking. Our three meeting rooms can take between a maximum of 22 and 40 people, depending on layout. For larger meetings, presentations and exhibitions, there is the Great Hall. Our meeting rooms are designed to take the boredom out of meetings, yet still let you get on with business without distractions. All are quiet and comfortable, with layouts and technical capabilities that can be adapted to suit your needs. Our terraces and gardens make welcoming areas for drinks and coffee plus we have several private dining rooms as well as the main restaurant and bar.
We have Create your own wedding day; grand or intimate, smart or casual. We set the scene. We have both grand rooms and intimate spaces, so you can be as low-key or as flamboyant as you like. The Apartment is a quiet setting for a ceremony for up to 10 guests. If you’re thinking bigger you can enjoy the grandeur of the wood-panelled, Great Hall. A spectacular, double-height room, with oak panelling, Gothic windows, inglenook fireplace and minstrels’ gallery, the Great Hall has a separate entrance away from hotel and restaurant guests. We have other rooms to suit wedding parties in-between, plus terraces and gardens for drinks and photographs.
Comfortable and uncluttered, our 40 bedrooms are designed to help you relax whether you’re in Newcastle for a relaxing break or for business. Colours are rich, furnishings are sleek, and there’s often a surprise – a window seat, a leafy view, a private terrace. Splashes of silk and velvet add a dash of luxury. Most beds are king-size or super-king-size; the latter convert to twin beds. We have family rooms, too. Bathrooms are crisp and stylish with plenty of space, plus underfloor heating. Choose from comfortable classic rooms, generous superiors and deluxes, or more spacious suites. There are two romantic, under-the-eaves, extra-large suites, too.
